Who to give to?

It’s the last day of the year, which is the time when people remember they want to give money to non-profits. If you’re looking for recommendations, here’s mine.
Oregon Walks – doing the literally pedestrian work of pedestrian advocacy. It’s not the shiniest work around, but they are tirelessly working to make sure no one gets killed just trying to cross the street, and they do it on a shoestring (pun intended!) budget.
Community Cycling Center: Getting bikes to and empowering underserved communities through bike fun, earn-a-bike, and community bike repair. For 20 years!
BlackGirlsCode: Teaching young black women to make cool things on the computer. They’re fighting racism, sexism, and the tech gap all in one adorable swoop.
Independent Publishing Resource Center: There’s nowhere in the world quite like the IPRC, helping people find their voice through self-publishing by being a scrappy, awesome, magical community center and outreach program. Portland wouldn’t be what it is today if it weren’t for the IPRC.

We have been and will continue to respond to this environment through innovation in our programs and an aggressive approach when confronting the tough problems mentioned above.

  6. The exceptions concern the so called settlement countries of Australia, Canada and New Zealand, which continued to take in considerable numbers, as well as Switzerland, which was fairly open as well, but largely to European migrants. Contrary to common belief, the United States has been fairly restrictive all along.
